Project Demonstration Site The overall purpose of the MESCAL Fiji project demonstration site is to demonstrate the implementation of mangrove management plan, to identify information gaps and a guide to gather data to complement national mangrove management, and to develop appropriate tools and mechanisms needed for sustainable mangrove management at a national level. Expected Outcomes It is expected that by the end of this project, the following outcomes will be achieved in the demonstration site: The knowledge and skills of government officials, local authorities and communities will be enhanced to promote sustainable management of mangrove resources Mangrove management in Fiji will be enhanced through management tools and techniques developed and through lessons learnt at the demonstration site A framework will be established under which the management of mangroves is clearly defined and shared between users and decision makers, at local and national level. The use and planning of mangrove will be strengthened at the demonstration sites which will allow for a reduction in the loss of mangrove habitats. Knowledge on the importance of mangroves and mangrove ecosystems will be enhanced for local and national level planning and protection |
